Group Counseling
At our counseling center, we are offering low-cost psychoeducational and support group counseling. Take a look at our group options to select what is the right fit for you or your loved ones:
Anger Management
Every Sunday at 12:00pm-1:00pm
This support group will help people identify stressors and learn steps to help them stay calm. People with managed anger will be able handle tense situations in a constructive, positive way. The purpose of anger management is to help a person decrease their anger. It reduces emotional and physical arousal that anger can cause. We will teach people how to control reactions and respond in a socially appropriate manner. Contact us directly by phone regarding court-ordered anger management for court-approved courses.
Parenting DBT Group
Every Friday at 7:00pm-8:00pm
Parenting a child/teen with intense emotions can be extremely difficult. This much-needed group will give you and your child the tools needed to help regulate his or her emotions. In addition, you’ll learn the skills for managing your own reactions so you can survive these difficult years and help your child/teen thrive.
Required reading while attending the group: Parenting a Child/Teen Who Has Intense Emotions: DBT Skills to Help Your Teen Navigate Emotional and Behavioral Challenges; Authors: Harvey & Rathbone; $20 each book purchased
Adolescent DBT Group
Ages 12-17
Every Tuesday 7:00pm-8:00pm
Has your teenager been struggling with anxiety, depression, self-identity, emotional dysregulation, or ineffectively interacting with peers? We have the group for your teen!
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) will provide indispensable tools for adolescents with emotional or behavioral problems of any level of severity. We will cover five sets of skills: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Walking the Middle Path, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. The adolescent group has been developed for psychoeducational purposes, not processing through the dysfunctional behaviors presented by each group member. Your adolescent will be expected to complete their homework in between sessions and then share their progress at the weekly group meetings. Individual counseling will be scheduled weekly or bi-weekly for your adolescent, depending on their need, to allow one-on-one time to process their dysfunctional thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. Group members must be assessed prior to beginning this group to ensure that he or she is a good fit.
Mother’s Support Group
First Monday every month (once per month) 6:00pm-7:00pm
Are you having symptoms of anxiety, depression, or any other abnormal reactions due to being a mother… or even being a wife/partner? Join our group that is co-facilitated by another mother with two young children diagnosed with Autism. She shares her testimony and wisdom; she currently is publishing a book about the effects of mental health on motherhood.
